I have had vitamix 5200 blender for a long time and it's value is well worth it after you have used it a few years. Vita-Mix blenders are generally more costly than other blenders, so it is an investment. I think Jamba Juice also uses these blenders so you know that you are paying for a quality product (sharp blade that can handle anything, powerful motor).You should buy vitamix 5200 blender if you like making your own smoothies, etc. Of course, it can make other things like purees, sauces, soups. I have only used vitamix 5200 blender for cold drinks and it evenly blends anything I put into it.
I guess the only hang-up I have is that certain things (like flax seeds) can stick to its side and hide underneath the blade which makes it hard to clean up. When I have this problem, I simply put in a little soapy water and run the blender for a few seconds. This helps clean up.
